The Balmoral Cairns are a series of 12 pyramidal structures located deep in the forests of the Balmoral Estate, in Deeside, Scotland. The estate, owned by the British Royal Family since 1852, is one of the many residences of the royals. Beginning in 1858, the Royal Family began erecting stone pyramids to commemorate certain important events, such as the marriages or deaths of import figures. The construction of cairns continues to this day: one was completed as recently as 2012, to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession.
